Talking about colors, color names

2024.09.05

Each color name is derived from Japanese classical words (gago) that describe phenomena (celestial phenomena) seen in the sun, moon, stars, and so on.

Generally, colors are named after hues, but depending on the viewer, what that color looks like, the feelings of the person wearing that color, and how those around perceive the beauty of the wearer, the impression that person gives can change greatly.

Celestial phenomena are exactly the same; the same sky is perceived differently by each viewer, and just as each person's sensitivity to the details of beauty differs, the name includes the Japanese classical language "gago" that expresses celestial phenomena.
For example, B8's Saiun (彩雲). Saiun is a phenomenon where the sun's light reflects off clouds, showing beautiful colors, and its vivid hues decorate the sky. It represents a precious moment capturing a fleeting beauty. I believe this precious moment varies in beauty for each person who sees it. The goddess bestows this impression as the person's optimal celestial phenomenon. This is the meaning behind the color's name.
